Marriage License

Step 1: Apply online up to 12 months in advance.

It’s easy to do once you know your wedding date, location, and the name of your officiant. Your application is valid for 12 months and costs $60. To start, go to: https://emrs.ehawaii.gov/emrs/public/home.html. To search, do not use a title. Search for Rob Kvidt.

Step 2: Keep your record locator number.

You will find this number on your receipt after payment has been processed. It will speed up the process for the next step and help you access your record later.

Step 3: Find a Marriage LICENSE Agent on Kauai 30 days before your ceremony.

A list of agents can be found here. Call first to make an appointment. Be sure that you both bring either a driver’s license or passport. Agents are located around the island. A $5.00 fee will be collected when your marriage license is issued. Be sure to bring your record locator number with you for easier processing.

step 4: Bring your license to the ceremony.

After your wedding, I will sign the marriage license and file it with the State of Hawaii. A temporary license will be available online within 3-5 days. You can access it with your record locator.

Step 5: Look for your official marriage certificate in the mail.

Issued by the State of Hawaii, it will be sent to you three weeks after your ceremony.

Fast facts.

The legal age to marry is 18 in Hawaii. No blood tests are needed. It does not matter what state you reside in or if you are a USA citizen. If previously married, proof of the divorce or a death certificate will need to be provided to the marriage agent.
